Propranolol: Uses, Side Effects and Precautions
Propranolol is a prescription beta blocker used for heart problems, overactive thyroid symptoms, physical anxiety symptoms and migraine prevention.
What should I know about Propranolol?
It slows the heart rate. For heart conditions, it can take 2 to 3 weeks to work fully.
What are the side effects?
Dizziness, tiredness, cold hands or feet, sleep difficulties and nightmares can occur.
Who should check first?
Tell your doctor about all your medical conditions and medicines, especially asthma or breathing problems, and if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not stop unless your doctor advises it.
When should I get help?
See your doctor if you feel very dizzy or faint. Call your local emergency number (000 in Australia) for swelling of the throat or tongue, or trouble breathing.
Doses vary, so follow your prescriber, pharmacist and the medicine label. In Australia, call 000 in an emergency. Outside Australia, use your local emergency number.
